BIO:
The Elkcloner is the exciting new project of Serbia native, New York resident and
acclaimed composer/music producer Filip Mitrovic. Having some impressive accolades
already on his resume (he co-scored music for several feature films, including ‘Resident
Evil: Afterlife,’ ‘The Echo’ – from the makers of ‘The Ring’ and ‘The Grudge’, and a
Sundance 2008 Award winner ‘Sleep Dealer’), Mitrovic is preparing to unleash his
genre-redefining blend of experimental/electronic art-jams to the masses on Feb 28.
With a history that includes scoring MSNBC’s detective shows ‘Lockup’ and ‘The
Squeeze’, and a series of TV promos for HBO’s ‘True Blood’, Mitrovic approaches his
project The Elkcloner with unrivalled music/production expertise, and a dynamic so
unusual the music propels into a genre unto its own.
An album based entirely on live recordings (no samples whatsoever); “The Elkcloner”
is influenced by Mitrovic’s classically trained background (Mitrovic’s work “Arcana” was
premiered at New York City’s prestigious Carnegie Hall in October 2010), as well as
citing artists as diverse as Tom Waits, Angelo Badalamenti, Massive Attack, Bartok,
Portishead, Bjork and Miles Davis. The result is a perfectly ingenious collection of
tunes that will leave you wondering what just happened… and desperate for it to happen
again.
Top Chicago-based Jazz vocalist Rose Colella brings her talent to the album, perfectly
complementing the obscure beats and energy to bring a stripped back, soulful sensibility
to the tracks in which she features. A regular at Chicago’s top Jazz clubs, Colella is
something of an Illinois staple.
The Elkcloner bears reference to the original computer virus that was designed to
spread its creator’s poetry. Poetry being incremental to Mitrovic’s work here; the lyrics
to the tracks “Coyote Song” and “Crossfire” were those of legendary deceased New
York poet Joseph Ceravolo (1934-1988); “Annabel Lee” was written by Edgar Allan
Poe (1809-1849), and “Twisted” by Jennifer Scappettone (an established poet from the
University of Chicago). An 11-year old child, on the other hand, was responsible for the
lyrics to “Sunbird”.
“Crossfire” is the lead track from the album, which is available for free download here.
Also stay tuned for a mind-bending video to accompany the track – an insanely clever
body of pure stop animation, bright colors and hypnosis.
