Neighborhood Children: Dj Phoecus & Mizzy the WildChild, Paul Chase, Byrd & the rest of the kidz

Dedication is the backbone of all successful situations, and it is no surprise that Dj Phoecus (Focus) & Mizzy the WildChild learned this at a very early age. Dj Phoecus spent his 18th birthday in a coma after a tragic car accident. Upon awaking, the doctors said he had a one track mind, literally he could only concentrate on one thing, and that one thing was music.

He began Djing around Atlantic City which lead to him partaking in radio promotions for Kanye West’s label and management companies (G.O.O.D/ Hustle Period) as well as interning at the urban management powerhouse Violator (Diddy, 50 Cent, LL Cool J, Macy Grey, Busta Rhymes, and Swizz Beats) where Phoecus had the opportunity to learn from some of the best in the music business. The only problem was he could never keep a job… so he was labeled as a music industry flunky.

After returning to his roots of mixing and creating music with his brothers Paul Chase & Byrd, he began to get booked for bigger events. He has Deejay'd at some of New York’s trendiest venues and strengthened his ties through other well known brands including YRB Magazine, HBO, Mercedes Benz, and countless other sponsors. More recently a young MC named Mizzy the WildChild, began to catch a local buzz in the neighborhood so Phoecus took him under his wing. Mizzy never had parental control, so he was always the uniquely young kid who hung with a crowd 5 to 10 years ahead of himself, naturally becoming a wild child. Newly 18 years old, Mizzy has seen a lot at a young age and his words paint that picture.

These guys have a positive momentum that you can feel upon their approach. They have a strong sense of where they want to be and what it’ll take for them to acquire it. Their next steps are best illustrated by a quote from Phoecus “The one thing I learned when I woke up from the coma was to live for the moment. So we create music, have fun, & remix everything. The Neighborhood is the movement, our thoughts are reckless, but our intentions are beautiful. I Dj dive bars & celebrity events, no one cares... either do I... I look toward the future and smile."
